An Athlete and an Artist
Our son Jace is a sports fanatic. His favorite passed time is anything sports related! He is a busy body that never stops moving. When we finally get him to sit still, he enjoys winding down and gaming on his PS5.
Our younger son Jax is the polar opposite. He is a very artistic kiddo that loves any chance to be creative. He can literally make something out of nothing! It is comical to see what he comes up with. Art is his passion for sure.
Since these two are such polar opposites, they definitely don’t get to spend a lot of time together. We wanted a playroom to not only house all the toys, but one that also encouraged them to spend some time together.
We chose to turn the playroom closet into a gaming setup for Jace. It was a super easy two-day project. We took the rod out of the closet and moved one of the taller shelves down to desk height. If you missed it, there is a blog post of Jace’s gaming setup with all the details.
We put Jax’s art desk on the wall next to Jace’s gaming setup. We keep it stocked with all sorts of art supplies. I love when he gets creative. We take any opportunity we can to get him off devices. He loves sharpie markers, so we gift those to him every chance we get. We buy art supplies in bulk on amazon. Our favorite purchase that saves us a lot of time are the bulk order of pre sharpened pencils.
My Favorite part of the room is the bookshelf. It is a bit of an ohmage to all their favorite things and some of their old favorite toys. The bookshelf was an old wooden shelf my Dad had given to me from an old house he redid. I gave the shelf a couple coats of the off black paint and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The oversized shelf is the perfect addition to their hangout.

This playroom has served its purpose for sure. It makes me so happy to hear giggles, encouraging words, and conversation come from this room. I love it when a plan comes together, and this playroom has definitely brought these two brothers closer together.
