plans to renovate our cabin bathroom – From dungeon darkness to light and airy

Our next project is renovating the downstairs bathroom in our A-frame cabin. The cabin has been a bit neglected over the years. Actually, calling it a bathroom is a bit of an overstatement considering the room consists only of a water heater and a pressure tank at the moment.

I was a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out a new layout for the bathroom. The size of the room is a bit small. Luckily, I am no stranger to tiny bathrooms. We had to be quite creative while creating the bathrooms for our grain bin cabins. Having that experience under my belt gave me just enough confidence to try and tackle this unique room.

The first thing I noticed was if we were going to be able to fit everything we wanted to into this bathroom; we were going to have to move the doorway.

This is the current set up of the room. The electrical box is on the far-left wall. I thought it would be important to have a utility room separate from the bathroom to house the water heater, electrical box, and pressure tank. My solution would be closing in the current doorway and making a new one on the far-right wall.

By moving the door, we were able to have more width to play with. I decided to move the pressure tank to the back and make a wall. By doing so, we were able to have the utility room and bathroom be two separate spaces. To save room we have opted to use slider doors in this project (both the entry into the bathroom and door to the utility room.

Since this bathroom is so small I’d like to allow as much natural light in the room as possible. With that in mind, we have chosen to use slider doors similar to the picture above. To add a bit of privacy we will opt for frosted glass instead of clear.

The door into the utility room will be similar to the slider door above. By using a mirrored door, we are making good use of the natural light and brightening the space even more. In turn making it feel bigger and brighter without knocking down any walls.

In the spirit of saving space, we have opted for the cutest little corner sink (similar to the sink above). Leaving just enough room to wash your hands but not much else! I am so excited to get the ball rolling on this project. Considering the shape of this room, I have a feeling this will be my favorite before and after! Keep checking back for my mood board for this bathroom!!
