The boys’ room was well overdue for a little refresh. They had not only needed a closet clean out, but they also needed whole bedroom tune up. We had redone the boys’ bedroom just a couple years ago, so I knew it wasn’t going to need much. I had just a few changes in mind to make the bedroom a bit more age appropriate as they had outgrown some of the previous decor.
The Inspiration
The inspiration was actually the movie The Sandlot. The boys have had it playing on repeat this summer. I love all the shrines of sports memorabilia in all of the rooms in the movie. I loved the idea of giving the room an eclectic sports feel with their own wall of fame. I had all the ideas, now it was time to implement them!
declutter
To start, I decluttered the room. I relocated the dog’s crate and a shelf/drawer by Jace’s bed that was making the room feel very Closter phobic. I also took down their closet bifold doors, that take up so much space without noticing. By making those small changes it made the room look so much bigger. It also gave me a lot of wall space to utilize.
use what we have
I really like to get creative and try to use decor around the house that we already have and give it new life. In this case, we bought display cases for the boys’ jerseys they grew out of, hung a mirror that we had been using in our bathroom, and bought a frame for my Grandpa’s poster he had kept from 1969 (By far my favorite thing in the room). I also brought up a locker that I had found a few years ago on Facebook Marketplace, that had been sitting in the garage waiting for a purpose.
Incorporate the new

This is where Amazon comes in. I don’t know about you but when I get inspired and the ideas start flowing, I want to get to work! You can’t beat the two-day shipping, and I feel like I can find everything I need. (I used a few more items that we already had around the house and are no longer available, but have included similar links)
Comforter // Sheet Set // Orange Euro Pillow // Wall Sconce // Floor Lamp // Patchwork Quilt // Area Rug // Poster Frame (Poster not included) // Jersey Display Case // “J” Pendant // Wall Mirror // Similar Personalized baseball jersey // Hanging Headboard // Easy Peel and Stick Cord Hider // Touch lamp

Have Courage Banner // Similar Locker Unit // Wooden Bed Platform // Curtains // Touch Lamp // Similar Long Live Boyhood Banner

This was a fun project. It’s fun seeing the transformation after just a few little tweaks. Little things can make a big impact! If a space is starting to feel worn you don’t need an entire overhaul. Find inspiration and do what you like, not what everyone else is doing.

What can you fit or put into the boys gym lockers!?
Hi Stacy! I am actually on the hunt for a tall thin shoe organizer to put inside! Our oldest son has so many cleats for all the different sports! So I’d like the lockers to help house those and the overflow of shoes! I would like to also keep one open for backpacks during the school year! Thanks for commenting! 🙂
Hey! First off, I love everything about this room! I am going for a similar feel in my son’s room. I just have had a terrible time finding the right shade of green, everyone that I find is either too bright or too dark. I LOVE the wall color you chose. What is the color called?
Hi Rachel! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like it! I know just what you mean, and I think you’ll love this color! It is Rocky River by Sherwin Williams and we love the moody but bright feel it gives off!! Thanks again for the kind words! Happy painting!!
